Maybe it's the resurgence of Y2K fashion or the Barbie movie which I have yet to see but I decided I'd like to make 2024 a little shinier than 2023.
2023 was practical, responsible, and utilitarian which, coincidentally, is also how I'd describe my boobs after a year of breastfeeding. We got the job done, no fuss.
But just beneath the surface of this cardigan wearing, safety first, chief of the fun police resides glitter Becca. An inner-child-mermaid-wannabe relic who's still alive and well.
And now she's arrived in 2024 ready to shine.
Glitter Becca is far from new, if you haven't had the opportunity to meet well, that's a shame. Here are some things you should know about her:
She wears a sunscreen called diamond dust and yes, it is reef safe.
She enjoys edible glitter in her beverages in moderation.
She carries bubbles in her purse because "ya never know".
She loves mermaids and all things magic and whimsical.
She spent her winter break learning how to juggle because it's always good to have a back up career plan.
She recently reintroduced glitter eyeshadow into her makeup routine and feels good about the investment.
Though her adult wardrobe might suggest otherwise, she obviously owned a bedazzler.
It's important to me that you understand her credentials that informed the decision to make sparkle the word of the year.
It's also important to me that I leave the spaces that I'm in and the people that I'm with a little better than when I first found them. Like when you walk into a yoga class cold, cranky and crunchy and emerge into a world that's a little more sparkly than it was before. The world didn't change, you did. That's the effect we are aiming for in 2024.
In short, I hope that this year you spend time in spaces and with people who help you sparkle a little brighter.
